Well done Francis!

On Tuesday 27th September 2016 Killeen Castle Golf Resort in Dunsany Co. Meath hosted the Great Irish Golf Senior Championship. The conditions proved difficult for all competitiors with high winds blowing on course. The scores were not as high as normal but new champions were crowded. The new Great Irish Golf Senior Champion (0-9 category) Francis O’Donoghue  of Knightsbrook Golf Club shooting 35 points playing off 6. This was a tremendous performance in the windy conditions off the Medal tees.

Inter County Golf Championships

The inaugural Inter County Golf Championships (Leinster Region) took place over two venues with 13 Leinster clubs invited to represent their county in the event. Hosting venues Killeen Castle Golf Resort on Tuesday 27th September 2016 and Druids Glen Golf Resort on Monday 3rd October 2016 gave a fantastic setting for the new Great Irish Golf event. Each team consisting of 8 players played in a match play scenario against each other and every club praised the new scoring system. Three clubs representing their county Dunmurray Springs (Kildare), Rathdowney (Laois) and Knightsbrook  ended up tied on 32 points. A count back gave Knightsbrook Golf Club the win and captain Thomas Renehan was delighted to bring the Leinster Shield to his club. As captain Tom commented he was delighted that Knightsbrook Golf Club had such a great success in his year and the club’s 10th anniversary and looks forward to the European Championships in April.
