Knightsbrook Golf Club was adorned in all shades of pink recently as the golfing community came together for a very well-supported “Play in Pink” golf outing. The event was organised by Knightsbrook Operations Manager Kate Jones, in collaboration with Lady Captain Jane Molony, Susan Cullen and the dedicated ladies’ committee. The occasion aimed at raising funds for the “Play in Pink” charity, which was set up over 20 years ago at the University of Galway, to support breast cancer research and to help fund a comprehensive research programme. The initiative has grown significantly since then, and there were 220 Play in Pink days in 2024, raising over €775,000 for the charity.
Inspired by her journey as a breast cancer survivor and the exceptional care she received, Kate wanted to bring the golfing community together to raise awareness and to support this very worthy cause.
The day was filled with camaraderie and enthusiasm, as participants, dressed in various shades of pink, some less outlandish than others. The golf was played against the beautiful backdrop of Knightsbrook Golf Course and clubhouse, which was also decorated in pink.
Thanks to the generous support of local sponsors and the tireless efforts of the organising committee, the outing raised over €5,000, with donations still coming in.
Kate Jones and Lady Captain Jane Molony expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all the sponsors, the staff at Knightsbrook Golf Club, and the ladies’ committee for their unwavering support and dedication, which ensured a fantastic turnout for the occasion. They also extended thanks to Mr. Peter Igoe, of Knightsbrook Hotel Spa and Golf Club, for the excellent golf course maintenance and his strong support for the initiative.
The “Play in Pink” golf outing not only raised significant funds for a worthy cause but also served as a reminder of the strength and resilience of those affected by breast cancer. With plans to make this event an annual club highlight, Kate and the ladies’ committee look forward to continuing the fight against breast cancer, pretty in pink and one swing at a time.
