Knightsbrook Golf Club has lost another of its stalwart members with the sad passing of Liam McMenamin-former Captain (2010) and President (2014). Liam was also a founding member of The Senior Knights and Dames, (SKD) where he served in numerous roles as captain, secretary and treasurer. Liam was an active member of the club from its inception in 2006 until his recent illness. Even then, he kept in touch with members and was keenly interested especially in the Knights and Dames.

Liam McMenamin, Captain                          2010

Liam was a competent, competitive golfer who, above all, enjoyed the fun and camaraderie of the game. He loved telling yarns and recalling humorous stories on and off the fairways. Liam, a former teacher, bank manager and international consultant, used his leadership and management skills to great effect on Club committees and as Captain and President of Knightsbrook Golf Club.  As a founding member of the SKD, he was involved in  organising golf competitions, social events and “away outings” further afield for its members. In a tribute to Liam, President of Knightsbrook Golf Club, Jodie Coughlan,  says Liam  ” was a great ambassador for our club, especially in his role of  Captain and President” Captain Leonard Flynn said he ” had heard of the passing of our friend, former Captain and President with deep regret” The captain offered “sincere condolences to his wife Anne and his daughters, Glenda, Karina, Barbara and Rhona and all Liam’s Family”  Liam’s Senior Dames and Knights Captai , Tony O Brien also paid tribute to Liam stating that “Liam was one of the good guys, on and off the course, one of the founding pillars of SKD. He said he “had a great intellect” and was a “great provider of sound counsel when necessary”  Many tributes describe Liam as a “gentleman and a pleasure to play golf with” He will be sadly missed by members.

Liam McMenami , President                                    2012.

Liam was an avid reader and, a great conversationalist and was very proud of his Donegal roots. He followed the fortunes of the Donegal GAA footballers and was also a rugby enthusiast. Above all, Liam was a family man, dedicated to his wife Anne and daughters, Glenda, Karina, Barbara and Rhona and his grandchildren. Members of Knightsbrook Golf Club extend their sincere sympathies to all the extended McMenamin family. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam dhílis.
